Sustainability is part of our DNA

IHCantabria emerges as a reference point in sustainability

We strive to contribute to the sustainable development of the planet in everything we do. Sustainability is part of the nature of our work, which stands out as a priority and is part of our institutional mission and vision. This commitment is reflected in all our activities, including assessing and reducing our environmental impact. In 2025, we quantified our direct emissions at 65.09 tCO2eq and indirect emissions at 407.34 tCO2eq, achieving an emissions intensity of 40.94 tCO2eq/M€.

In line with the Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) principles, we participate in more than 150 projects aimed at environmental protection and sustainable development, consolidating the positive impact of science on society.

Our efforts are focused on identifying and assessing sustainable benefits, promoting Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), driving sustainability as an added value in collaboration with partners and customers.

Our inclusive culture in attracting and retaining talent supports diversity and offers equal opportunities for all, thus strengthening our innovative capacity and our commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Our work remains committed to the 2030 Agenda

In 2025, IHCantabria continues to strengthen its commitment to the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, working with a focus on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year we have promoted services and products consistent with the SDGs: sustainable cities and communities, aquatic life, clean water, sustainability in technology and innovation, and collaborations that drive sustainability agendas from a multidisciplinary approach.

IHCantabria develops its activity with the aim of generating scientific knowledge, promoting innovation and contributing to the resolution of global challenges related to water, climate change and marine ecosystems. In this context, it also promotes the integration of the principles of sustainability and good governance in the operation of the organization, reinforcing transparency, continuous improvement and accountability to its stakeholders.

In 2025, we allocated more than 0.9M€ to the training of our staff,and we have also participated in numerous projects aimed at sustainable water management and environmental protection, contributing to a positive regional and international impact. At IHCantabria, sustainability is not just a goal, it is our way of contributing to a more just and resilient future.
