ANNUAL REPORT 2025
Partnerships and Alliances
Our network of collaborations reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, with projects that integrate science, innovation and global action
Collaboration and strategic alliances are key to driving innovation in water management and environmental conservation. During 2025, we intensified our work, establishing partnerships with eight new multilateral institutions. These collaborations have enabled us to effectively address environmental challenges and advance sustainable solutions for the future. Together with our partners, we have tackled major global challenges such as offshore wind farm design, stormwater protection for cities, plastic removal from the oceans and watershed management. Through these initiatives, we support climate adaptation, build resilience and reduce environmental impact. Our partnerships with international agencies, academic institutions and companies in key sectors such as engineering, insurance and economics enable us to positively influence global policies, drive innovation and broaden our impact.
Collaborations with public administrations and research centers
We support evidence-based decision making
In 2025, IHCantabria strengthened collaboration with 22 national and 14 regional public administrations, promoting public policies based on scientific evidence. We have consolidated relationships with 3 research centers and 2 universities, favoring the transfer of knowledge and technology.
At the international level, we signed the Agreement between the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources of Cuba and Fundación Instituto de Hidráulica Ambiental de Cantabria (FIHAC) in order to promote research benefits, alliances and cooperation between professionals in the hydraulic sector and other research areas and interests. At the national level we have signed a Letter of Intent to establish the general lines of collaboration between the Municipality of Cadiz and FIHAC, for the proper management of tsunami risk in the municipality of Cadiz.

Collaborations with companies
Working with the private sector to develop innovative solutions
In 2025, IHCantabria strengthened relationships with more companies in various sectors, including energy, engineering and consulting. These partnerships are key to developing innovative and sustainable solutions, such as offshore engineering and energy efficiency projects. By collaborating with the business sector, we have enhanced our ability to address climate change, reduce environmental impacts and support the resilience of water-related socio-ecological systems. Together, we are developing solutions that make a difference, from offshore wind farm design to large city protection and watershed management, globally.
