European seas climate impact prediction through regional models (SEACLIM)

1. CHALLENGE
Climate change causes alterations in the marine environment that affect ecosystems and human activities. Rising temperatures and changing ocean conditions threaten fish populations and coastal communities. Decision-makers need accurate information to predict these changes and their effects on the ocean.
2. SOLUTION
SEACLIM provides detailed predictions of decadal to multi-decadal changes in marine environments. Using the Copernicus Marine Environmental Monitoring Service’s advanced regional ocean models, the project team will assess future changes in ocean circulation, waves, sea ice and biogeochemistry. By focusing on the Northeast Atlantic, North Sea and Arctic Ocean, SEACLIM will develop indicators to assess the health of these marine ecosystems.
3. RESULTS
These databases were integrated into Copernicus Marine to facilitate their access and use in climate services, including the development of products applied through demonstrators in ports and coastal areas, as well as support for strategic sectors of the blue economy such as aquaculture and offshore wind energy, and their results will contribute to informed decision-making and pave the way for a new line of services in the Copernicus Marine Environmental Monitoring Service.
